Utrecht Cultural Sunday No Man's Land,
Saturday and Sunday 7 and 8 November
20 Years After the Fall of the Berlin Wall:
New Boundaries, Border Areas and No Man’s Land
Translated by Raya Nunez, FEM News, Hogeschool Utrecht
Utrecht, on the border of the Randstad, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of another border: the Berlin Wall, with a groundbreaking weekend on Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 November, 2009: "Utrecht Cultural Sunday No Man's Land".
The fall of the Wall brought East and West together after decades and decades of separation. The area that was fiercely guarded by armed border troops until 1989, became a No Man's Land in every sense of the word. In this light, Cultural Sunday "No Man's Land" is searching for new boundaries, for border areas, and for No Man's Land. In Europe, in Berlin, in Utrecht.
Inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall and by the modern city of Berlin, Utrecht will be divided into three "zones": ZONE WEST, ZONE MITTE and ZONE OST. There will be concerts, lectures, exhibitions, films and exchange projects at 35 locations. "No Man's Land" programme starts on Saturday with a special opening night followed by a musical night programme.
Almost all sections are free! (Unless indicated otherwise.) Some programmes have a limited capacity, so please come early. Because if it's full, it's full!
