Utrecht Museum Night. In the Twilight Zone
Translated by Raya Nunez Hogeschool Utrecht

As dusk falls at 21.00 on Saturday evening, 30 May, eight museums in the heart of Utrecht will have you balancing in the Twilight. Between reality and imagination. In a spectacular Utrecht Museum Night Opening, Elle Bandita will lead you from the Neude to the Museum Quarter, where you’ll be totally immersed in the mysterious zone where reality meets fiction. This year, Utrecht Cultural Sunday - Museum Night will also be the Grande Finale of Festival a/d Werf. Festival a/d Werf is this year’s programmer of the 8th Utrecht Museum Night.

UNIQUE PRODUCTIONS WITH SPECIAL THEMES
You’ve never seen anything like this! You couldn’t have. All programmes were produced especially for the Museum Night. Besides the exceptional museum collections, in every museum, you will be confronted with a contradiction.

In the National Museum From Musical Clock to Street Organ (Nationaal Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement) traditional organ music will face the more erotic nightclub atmosphere. Gigolo Sven Ratzke will be your host.

Museum Catharijneconvent will turn into a total Bollywood experience.

At Sonnenborgh - museum & observatory (Sonnenborgh - museum & -Sterrenwacht) you’ll feel the contrast of celestial and underground atmospheres thanks to the special cooperation between the percussion group Percossa and the Dancegroup Amsterdam.

In Centraal Museum Utrecht, composer, Jonás Bisquert and three members of the Egidius Quartet will place the paintings by Jan van Scorel in a musical perspective. While Maarten van Rossem will give a lecture on Jan van Scorel and the cultural history of Utrecht.
The Flemish performance artist, Lawrence Malstaf will hang in a huge plastic art piece that will go vacuum through suction.
At the Refter, DJ Egbert Jan Weeber will open the evening, followed by producer Arjuna Schiks LIVE.

At Utrecht University Museum (Universiteitsmuseum Utrecht), theater maker Jan van den Berg of Theater Adhoc, will examine tapeworm sex.
Theatre and dance group ISH take over the AAMU Museum of contemporary Aboriginal art. In The Utrecht Archives, composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven places everything in the sign of Present and Past.

In the trains of the Railway Museum (Het Spoorwegmuseum), spectators can go on a trip with fortune tellers, palmists, tarot card readers and other mediums. There’ll be performances by Vincent de Rooij (ex-Dogtroep), theatre group DOX, the radio programme makers of KXradio, and Museum-Night-mayor, Elle Bandita; this time in an acoustic set. And finally, from 1.00 till 3.00 a.m.: the Closing Party ‘Twilight Unlimited’ with Kraak & Smaak.

COOPERATION
Moos van den Broek of Festival a/d Werf was appointed as curator the Museum Night. On the last day of the festival, Moos van den Broek will place each participating museum in a different light with theatre, music and performance programmes. This has created a unique cooperation between the eight participating museums of Utrecht, Cultural Sundays and Festival a/d Werf.
